aswan to luxor- fly or train?

Hi there. I will be in aswan for one day only (abu simbel in early am) , returning to luxor on a 1045pm flight arranged by TA. This is the last flight to luxor for the day and if something goes wrong, I would have to spend the night in aswan then. I was thinking of the 6:30 pm train to luxor but am a bit nervous of doing this (single female traveling alone plus "lateness" of the hour)..totally would not be a problem for me it was a daytime schedule..I'm not even sure if tourists are allowed on this train...thank you again in advance for any help.

Hello,

I think you'd be fine if it was a tourist train -- my sister and I took trains from Cairo to Luxor and my sister went on alone to Aswan after we had stayed in Luxor for a few days. She didn't have any problems as a woman travelling alone, but admittedly her train was during the day.

If you're nervous about it, you may want to ask your travel agent to see if there is an earlier flight, since it looks like you'll be done with your sightseeing pretty early.

Cheers,
Julian

The Sleeping Train is fabulous. You can pay a single supplement and have a cabin all to yourself if you want. It's clean, it's safe, it's a perfectly nice way to get from Cairo to Luxor or Aswan.

The website for it is http://www.sleepingtrains.com/

I agree with the last poster dont worry about going by train
book a cabin for yourself and you will be ok
there are a lot of women traveling around Egypt by themselves and also there will be other women on this train
which should be some comfort if you feel you need it

Hello,

I rode the sleeping train from Cairo to Luxor and as the previous poster said it was very comfortable. It was even more spacious than the overnight trains I've been on in Europe! If you could ride the sleeping train, you'd be fine.

Cheers,
Julian
