African Safaris

It is astonishing to note that many European TO/TA's claim to know Africa much better than the natives themselves!!In regard to this they tend to exorbitantly charge visitors and at times ripping them off yet we have African TO/TA's on the ground to provide same(even better) services ON VALUE FOR LESS.
I bet this forum is for Tourism related issues but i would like to understand why cant overseas TO/TA's let Africans sell what they know best??Someone please let me understand the logic...

Why have you tagged this rant for Morocco? No safaris there.

Nor do I understand why you think that overseas TAs PREVENT local operators from selling tours. I have bought tours locally, but I travel for months at a time. If you are talking about Americans, most have very short vacations and prefer to have all their arrangements in place before they leave, made with companies based in their own country. Many of those companies actually subcontract to local companies.

Our first safari was booked through a single TA, now called &Beyond. And we also booked a tour with another large US company that books complete trips. But now that we travel over longer periods, I've used local TAs or, in one case, a branch of a UK company located in Vic Falls. We are fortunate to have friends who live in Cape Town, so they have been helpful when we have worked out arrangements for touring from there & back. People on Fodor's tend to use ALL options for travel planning.

Your issue may relate to Fodor's forum rules that prohibit direct solicitation of business. Some providers participate in discussions here, and they can be contacted directly for advice and booking arrangements....but they don't actively ASK for business. They participate to encourage travelers/tourists to explore the kinds of places that best fit various travel styles...and to consider different African destinations.

... 'safaris in Morocco?' no wonder few replies. I only clicked in when I saw African Safaris... curious.

And though 'safari' means Journey, it could be Morocco.

But know that no one is holding back any travelers regardless destination from using 'in-country' outfitters to arrange their holidays. While some travelers prefer to use Tour Agents in their home country, others will just as likely use Tour Outfitters from a specific country.

Just NO Soliciting allowed.

We booked a lot of our travels ourselves when we went to Africa the first time. However, when we got to one of the lodges it had to be booked through an agent and we also booked some limos through one. We used Rhino Africa Safari's out of Capetown and it were amazed at the precision with which everything worked. The person we worked with was Nikki Duncan (I think she's actually from Australia but lived there a long time) and she was marvelous. I still have the e-mails from her as we plan to go again and use them, so I'll give you her e-mail address and then the company info in case she's not there. It's only been 2 years so she should still be there.

If you are going to Morocco, but just used the wrong terminology, let me know and I'll give you the company we are working with there as we will be going in 5 weeks.
