Wild dog den in Savuti/Duma Tau area
It seems to be a banner year for dens that are accessible for tourists. 8 pups in the Savuti area that are already about 10 weeks old. Great news for anyone going there soon, in another 2 to 3 weeks they will likely be on the move but probably spotted often for a while.

Yes, saw them last week. Saw the pack make two kudu kills in the Savuti channel in one incident.
Also saw the Chitabe pack (pups have left the den - they had nine but had lost three that week) and another 5 yearlings starting out as a new pack at Zib with Steve K.
All in all saw 38 dogs on my trip!

Wow! 38!
We saw wild dogs at Savuti in 2004, I think there were about 17 in the pack at that time...
It was an amazing experience.
On our recent trip to Kenya we were thrilled to see wild dogs in Samburu as I know sightings of them are very rare there...
This news post on the WS site is quite thrilling!

The den is about a 40-50 minute drive south from Savuti camp. Due to the flooded channel there are now only four crossing points so it is not a direct drive there.
I would guess it would be a long drive from Duma Tau to see the dogs in the evening...and there is no guarantee that they'll be there. The seem to move the den regularly (although only a few hundred metres or so). For three says after I saw the pups the vehciles that went out to see them failed to find them. However, they did find them the day after.
So if you have a choice Savuti is the best option to see this den.
