What to do in Dar Es Salaam for a few hours?
I'm posting this as a separate thread in hopes of eliciting more responses (thanks for the suggestion of the Sea Cliff, bat).
Our flight from Nairobi is scheduled to arrive at 9:10am and our departure to Selous is at 2:30pm. Allowing an hour on each end for getting to/from the city and airport, deplaning/picking up luggage and checking in again, that leaves me with about 3-3.5 hours of actual useable time. Anyone else have suggestions for what to do?
Shopping would be of interest especially for any arts/crafts that may be a specialty of the region. Thanks!

I received some shopping suggestions on Tripadvisor. This might be helpful to others too - http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic...es_Salaam.html

Patty,
I am a little late jumping in here. Karl on Trip Advisor gave you great advice on where to shop for handicrafts and collectibles in Dar. I want to plug a good friend of mine who has Shop #39 at Mwenge. His name is Marunda, but he also goes by Liston. I know him well from my years spent living in Dar and I owe many of my old and best pieces of African art (ie from Tanzania, Zaire and Mozambique) to him. He speaks English well.
