What size duffel for safari?

After reading endless posts on luggage restrictions - checked and carry-on - (I had totally forgotten about the 1 bag rule when traveling through Heathrow!!!) I have decided to order the LL Bean Adventure duffel. But what size makes the most sense???

Medium 2,024 cu. in. 11"H x 23"W x 11"D. 1 lb. 7 oz.

Large 5,832 cu. in. 13"H x 30"W x 15"D. 2 lb. 4 oz.

Thanks

I bought the large. Figure I don't have to fill it up completely, but it's nice to have extra room in case I buy anything.

Both are technically too big to be a carryone on BA...

From the BA website:

...for all air travellers departing a UK airport:

Passengers must comply with UK Department for Transport restrictions, which are:

ONE cabin bag, no bigger than 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm (approximately 22 inches x 17.5 inches x 9.85 inches).

For checked luggage, the 30" soft-sided duffle is what many are going with. As indicated, it doesn't have to be fully packed.

For carryon/rollon, the size limit by most airlines is a 22" bag including wheels and handles and less than 15/lbs.

BA appears to be the strictest when it comes to size/weight of these carryon bags. And, of course, if transiting thru London, going thru Security you can only have 1/bag (which includes the bag, handbag or camera or laptop. These items have to fit into the first bag in order to get thru Security, but can be removed once you're past (you then have 2/items). Other European airports are supposed to follow these same rules, but as of this date, hasn't gone into effect.
