the falls should be in full flow in March with heavy mist/spray, so you will get wet. Either side at that time of the year should be impressive. In the drier months, the Zim side is better. Zim has cheaper hotels, though there is budget lodging in Livingstone. If you are from the U.S, Zam visa is $100, Zim $30. Though Victoria Falls (Zim side) is generally safe for tourists, the national elections in Zimbabwe are scheduled for March and who knows what will happen then.

Hi matnikstym-
You seem to know alot about Zimbabwe and what is going on there. Can you write a little more about what the upcoming elections are all about this March? I am asking because I am planning a trip to VF in August 2008 and am concerned that conditions may get worse after the elections and maybe I should be booking on the Zambia side instead? Thanks.

A good idea is to book through a hostel that will arrange your visa so that you don't have to pay at the border. Jollyboys in Livingstone puts your name on a visa list for free so that you don't have to pay at border. I'm not sure which other hostels provide this service.

Any Zambian tour operator should be able to get the visa waiver for you. When we went in 2003, it took the airport personnel a while to find the paperwork, but eventually came up with it.

which country is easier to get to from South Africa?

Which country is easier to get to from Botswana?

Other than seeing VF, is there any other reason to stay in Zambia or Zimbabwe as I will be spending most of my time in SA.

Thanks
