Two good Zimbabwe books
I've just read two really good books about Zim, both biographies and both recommended in earlier posts in this forum.
Rainbow's End, by Lauren St. John, is the story of her childhood and adolescence before and during the independence war. It's partly a coming-of-age story, partly a first-person history. I really appreciated seeing the war through her teenage perspective.
Peter Godwin's book, When A Crocodile Eats the Sun, is the story of the aftermath of the war and the vortex of destruction that has turned Zim into what it is today. He writes from the perspective of a professional journalist but also as a member of patriotic Zimbabwean family, and the professional and the personal mix wonderfully. It's really a compelling book.
Thanks to the forumites who suggested these books!

I concur with the recommendations of these books and want to add two more:
"Mukiwa" by Peter Godwin (author of "When a Crocodile.."
And let's not forget Alexandra Fuller's now-classic, "Don't Let's go to the Dogs Tonight.."
