Beautiful photos! My wife and I will be going on safari at some point. I'd like to have a good camera but I don't know much about photography yet. If you don't mind my asking, what kind of cameral do you have, and what lenses did you bring too? Because you were on safari, did you have to bring extra equipment of some kind? Thanks!

Conndog - actually my husband just used the same camera that he had used 6 years ago. I pulled it out and I thought it was a Canon but it is actually a Nikon D7500 that he bought at Costco for our first Africa trip. He mostly shoots with a Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3g ED lens. (I have no idea what this actually means but that is what it says on the camera lens). So it's kind of a tele-zoom lens. It seems to be a perfect combo as the lens is not so huge and he carries it in his relatively compact camera bag. The nice thing about safari is that you are sitting in a vehicle so it is easy to bring the bag along. What was really funny was that one of our guides pulled out his camera which had a HUGE telephoto lens on it. I don't even know how he could hold it up and I also don't remember what it was that we were seeing that he wanted to capture it also. It was the kind of lens that I have seen serious birdwatchers use.

Otherwise he doesn't use any other special equipment. He does have years of experience in shooting as he started in high school. So he really has the "eye" and the steady hands. Also, sometimes I can't believe how many shots he will take but I realize that is the only way that you can guarantee to get that one shot that says it all.

Mabulachris - we did have an amazing time in Tanzania! Thanks.

Enjoyed reading your trip report! And loved all the details and the pix. We (husband and I) just got back from a safari to Tanzania and it was fabulous. Glad to hear that most folks have a great time out in east Africa.
