The Mara is a little darker tonight - RIP Ping

I know there are quite a few safari-goers on this forum who were lucky enough to be guided on safari in the Maasai Mara by Johnson Pinguua Nkukuu “Ping” out of one of the many camps he worked at over the years. I’m sad to share that Ping passed away yesterday after a very short illness. Enaidura Camp, the camp he co-owned with the Wild Source, posted the news this morning. The outpouring of shock and deep respect from all corners of the world on so many social media posts today has been comforting to me all day; what a legacy he has left behind. My last safari with him was so incredible and life changing; he went above and beyond to pull out all the stops and deliver non-stop magic. I will really miss him as will many others.

Thank you for posting about Ping. I am so sorry to hear this news. We met him when we stayed at Enaidura Camp a few years ago, although were guided by a different guide. We were so impressed by Ping and his knowledge, vision and kindness.
