Thanks everybody for the advice -- it is helping us a great deal as we go about planning this trip.

Our original plans have changed a bit. Several friends who have been to SA strongly urged us to spend more than 3 days and nights in Cape Town, and the more we read about it, the more we decided that we wanted to -- but at the same time we do not want to sacrifice our game viewing time to do so. In addition, we felt like our plans required us to pack up and move around too much and that it would be more relaxing to stay a bit longer in each place. Of course the problem then is one of timing and what to drop from our itinerary. The first thing to go was Mkuze Falls Game Lodge since it is quite a distance from everything else on our itinerary and also because they have increased their rates significantly for the time we will be there. We will save that for another time. Since our main priority for this trip is viewing and photographing wildlife, with those three days we would have spent at Mkuze Falls we can add one day to each camp in Kruger (3 nights at Lower Sabie and 3 nights at Olifants) and one additional day to Chitwa Chitwa (4 nights). Then to add more time to Cape Town we took the advice of Karen and decided we will take a direct flight from Hoedspruit to Cape Town rather than flying to George. We will spend 5 nights in Cape Town rather than 3 and will save the Garden Route for a future trip as well.

So with the first part of our trip starting to take shape, we are open to suggestions for where we should stay for our 5 nights in Cape Town. We will have a rental car for daytrips, etc. but would like to stay someplace where we can safely walk to restaurants for dinner in the evening, shopping, etc. -- maybe the waterfront? We would probably prefer to keep it under around 1350R/$150 per room per night if possible although we can be a bit flexible on that for someplace REALLY special. And a water or mountain view would be terrific.
