Waw, that is a great price for 12 days in South Africa, I might duplicate your trip next Spring. We would have to pay a bit more flying from Los Angeles, last I heard it was about $1,500 US per person.

I am thinking about taking our 9 year old granddaughter with us (she will be 10 by then), would you advice against it? Can the rooms there accommodate three persons?

I'm not sure whether I can be of much help as regards your last question. I guess when you don't have children, you don't really notice whether places are child friendly or not!

Still, for what it's worth, I would say that of all the places we stayed, perhaps only Kosi Forest Lodge wouldn't really be suitable for a child, as the luxury tents there really only sleep 2 people, and things didn't really seem to be organised with children in mind.

At Blyde River Canyon lodge, I didn't notice whether the rooms could sleep three, but that's not to say it's not possible! It seemed quite a child friendly place, particularly due to the resident zebra and wildebeest and the pleasant gardens and pool, and the overall small scale of the place.

The Kruger restcamps offer various types of accommodation, so family rooms are definitely possible. There were a few children on the organised game drives we went on, and they seemed to be having a whale of a time.

Phophonyane Lodge offered various cottages and luxury tents sleeping upwards of two people, and there were a couple of families staying when we were there. The beautiful, huge swimming pool seemed to be a hit with the kids.

Thanks, Hani, for all your help. I am going to start planning this trip. I will probably skip the two nights in Letaba since you weren't too thrill with it and add one night each to Olifants and Berg-en-Dal.
My husband does not feel comfortable to drive on the left hand side of the road, I will try to twist his arm.

I agree that it's probably worth skipping Letaba and spending more time at the other two camps. The flora and fauna around Olifants and Letaba was fairly similar, we found, and during the day you can easily drive a bit further north and explore the area.

My boyfriend was wary about driving on the left at first (he's French), but in the end he was fine, drove everywhere like a true pro!! Shame on me, I'm British and therefore used to driving on the left, but I left it all up to him!!
