Just checked the WS website....they have updated the Duma Tau news section and it appears like they may be denning there again!

The latest news I have from Selinda CMG is that the dogs were seen at the Lagoon on 7th July, still no sign of a den.

Oh well another visit to Zib without the dogs! Perhaps they have heard how exclusive it will be next year and will come back then! Lets hope there is some action in Kwando.

Thanks Hari!
Lets hope we get the chance to see them when we are in Leballa in two weeks. We have a private vehicle and like to have long drives. Where do you get your Kwando information from?

Sniktawk,

I spoke to Sue and John Mynhardt while I was at Selinda main camp and they told me what Hari is telling you about the dogs at Lagoon. Also Hari spend a considerable time in the area last June.

Is Charles or Spencer guiding you?

Sniktawk,

As Johan was saying....i was there mid june. At that time, there was a lot of speculation as to the number of pups in the litter....8, 9, 10 etc etc., but the official word is 9 pups....

How much time are you spending at Lebala?

When i was at Lebala last month, we switched two nights to go stay at Lagoon to be closer to the den. That was before the pups were coming out.....so, the den should be far more active by now!

Sounds like you are going to hv a great trip.

Rgds,
Hari

For Hari S

Thanks very much, I had never seen these reports before I presume they are new for 2007.If it is true that the pubs were born in middle of May then we might just get to see them before they move off. If they are there we will certainly try to transfer to Lagoon for a night or two. It is not usually full, at least never when I have been there. We will let you know if we are lucky, we hope to have Spencer as our guide, although I have heard that Steve is back so who knows. We are also going to Zib for the last time and trying Motswiri for the first time. I'll try to let everybody know if this is OK as the rates are still affordable next year if you can get 6 people together. Strangely there is an article in Getaway magazine August edition about Motswiri which is described as an 8 bed camp rather than the 6 on the web site, hopefully this is an error.

P.S: From Brandywine's CURRENT trip report....the Chitabe pack don't appear to be denning on the concession.

Mala Mala, South Africa is probably the only other concession with denning dogs at the moment that we know of!

I had hoped to see dogs in September, specifically picking Selinda and Chitabe for this reason. This new information doesn't sound so hot...

I think you've still got a very good chance. I don't know about Chitabe's dogs, but the Selinda pack are frequent visitors to the Zibalianja area even when denning in Duma Tau. It seems to be favoured hunting territory...the name Zibalianja means 'place of the wild dog.'

I just returned from Botswana this past Saturday. Had incredible dog sightings at Duma Tau. Saw a pack of 5 on my first evening drive, and stayed with a pack of 8 for several hours one morning. I also saw dogs at Chitabe. Chased a pack of three for about 30 minutes. I will post a trip report and photos as soon as possible.

Saw the dogs briefly at Selinda last week. They're not denning there but crossed over for a visit.

Hi Marija,

Welcome back! Hope you had a good trip! Any news about the animals in general? The Selinda pride and cubs? The cheetah?

Thanks,
Hari
