Woo Hoo!
No I'm waiting a little longer as Sigma and Tamron have both bought out versions of that same lens (28-300 with wider aperture than previous models) so I am going to see if price drops.
I use Fuji Superia pretty much exclusively - I did take 100, 200 and 400 but next time will take only 400 speed.
I also marked each roll once taken to have the order and insisted that the processing lab did same to finished negs/ prints.
When are you going?
Please feel free to email and chat...

Hi Kristy

Just a quick note re: other people booking the week you want to go by checking the 2afrika website - it isnt always accurate!

I say this because we have been booked since January, just received our itinerary package and have our plane tickets and everything else for June 9 departure(exactly one month - cant wait!) and so we KNOW there are at least 2 people going for our time period (and I think there is another couple booked too). The website as of yesterday, however, still said 6 spaces available. You might want to call them and just check that there really ARE spaces available for your time period!
I'm not trying to send you into a panic -the spaces are probably available and our case is an update mix-up. I know in March 5 of the 6 spaces for our trip were listed as booked on the website, so probably they have just misread/mistyped the update list.

However, it would be a pity if you missed your preferred dates due to a stupid transcription error or something when you had the option of booking. Perhaps they can let you know when the trip starts to fill up? I have found them very helpful by phone with all my questions.

Nkh: thanks for the tip. After I read your message, I immediately called 2Afrika. They gave me a scare at first, saying that they only had two seats left. It turns out though that they meant they had two seats available for Ryan and I.

Camera Lens Update: Well, I took the plunge. A couple of weeks ago I spent the money and bought the Tamron 28-300 lens. I am really happy with it. I have already taken several rolls of film using that lens exclusively and am pretty happy with the results. Ryan and I do plan on doing several 'practice run safaris' with that lens. What I mean is that we are going to go out and photograph some wildlife from our vehicle, to get a feel for what it will be like there.

Update on our trip: WE ARE BOOKED!!! I am so excited. I finished up booking with 2Afrika yesterday. We redid our trip a little, just the flights. So now, Ryan and I leave from our home airport, instead of JFK, on the 29th. 2Afrika actually found our flight route to be a little cheaper to skip JFK altogether. We are very excited. Last weekend we went out and bought several new pairs of pants and shorts that are lightweight khaki colored cotton. Now the countdown begins. 4 months a nd 6 days to go!!!!

Thanks everyone for your help. I'll be lurking until closer to when we leave, but I'm sure I will let everyone know when we get closer. And of course, I will update everyone with a trip report when we get back.

Congrats Kristy!
I know that actually getting it booked gives a tremendous feeling of relief and excitement!
Can't wait to hear about the trip a few months down the line.
Also great to hear the good news about the new lens!

Kristy-
This has been so much fun reading as your trip progresses. I recommend 2Afrika so many times because I think the prices are fantastic and allow a lot of people to go to Africa who would otherwise miss this wonderful experience. They weren't around when I started my safaris and I see they are even going into South Africa now. Great!
Please let us know how everything goes and share the "Africa Magic" with us when you return. Liz
