Roundtrip Marakele-Pilanesberg-Madikwe

Hi, my husband and I have a week free, and will be flying into Johannesberg on a Fridaynite late, leaving next Saturday nite late.
We are planning to rent a 4x4.
I was thinking to make a little roundtrip:
Johannesburg - Marakele: 2 nites
Marakele - Pilanesberg: 2 nites
Pilanesberg - Madikwe: 2 nites
Madikwe - Johannesburg: 1 nite and then fly back.
I am not so sure if this is too much though, and if it is too much what I should skip, or if I can add something else instead?

I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences! Thank you so much!

More information would really help.

When would this be?
Where are you flying from?
Have you been to SA before?

Of the three parks I've only been to Madikwe (a couple of times) so can't speak to the wildlife viewing or accommodations in the others. Certainly Madikwe is an outstanding experience.

Just on the surface it sounds like you'd be pretty rushed, with a fair amount of driving on more secondary roads. I doubt you'd need a 4 x 4, although I find hiring an SUV is useful due to the higher seating position - better visibility. One thing to note is that safari lodges generally provide two game drives daily, early morning and early evening, so by doing quick 2-night stays in three different places that are hours apart, you might be lessening the variety of game watching experiences. If you arrive too late in the afternoon to get checked in before the evening drive departs, you're sort of leaving money on the table, if you get my meaning.

But more information along the lines listed above will help.

And welcome to Fodor's!

Hi, thanks for your quick reply and warm welcome!
I am flying in the week before from the Netherlands as I am combining it with a work visit. My husband will fly in Friday night.
We have visited Capetown before, nothing else yet.
Thanks for your thoughts as I am doubting if it too rushed of just nice. I heard great stories about Madikwe and Pilanesberg. Marakele was just a wild thought on my end to throw in as well as it seemed also nice! Choices are difficult to make when you don't really know the terrain at hand and the roads and so! So much appreciate your thoughts!
