Questions for someone who knows Egypt
We are planning a GCT tour to Egypt later this January. A few questions:
1) Is a jacket needed at this time of year?
2) Is the internet readily accesible in Cairo/Luxor? (at Internet Cafes or at the hotel (we are staying at the Cairo Marriott).
3) Egyptair is our choice. Do they serve cocktails or wine on Egyptair?
4) Is it easy to get smaller Egyptian pound notes after we arrive (for tips)?
Any and all advice will be very much appreciated.

1) Cairo is usually cool at night. And temps do drop (maybe by 30-degrees from daytime highs) at night while on Nile Cruise. A jacket or sweater recommended.
2) Available
3) No, alcholic beverages served. Fruit drinks (Mango is great) and sodas only. Believe on your Intl flight you can bring your own, but remember the 3/oz limit for liquids in your carryon... ugh!
4) Not really. Certainly not from the ATMs nor the currency exchange at your hotel. Maybe you'll receive some as change for purchases. Have a back-up plan, i.e., lots of USD$1s.

ATM machines are really fickle in Cairo .
The person I was with had a difficult time getting anything out of the ATM.
We stayed at the Marriott.
You should have no problem getting Egyptian Pound Notes for tips.
I exchanged some money at the Cairo airport and they gave me whatever currency I asked for.... same at the Marriott..........they had a good exchange there also( same as bank rate) and I got all the one pound Egyptians notes I wanted.
However, the ATM at the Marriott was hit and miss !!
Have a good time

Was there in October
Yes to jacket
Stayed at a different hotel but had internet access in Aswan and Luxor so am sure it's available in Cairo
No alcohol on Egyptair
I got lots of one pound notes as change and exchanging money. Bring some U.S. ones to use for the first few days and to buy souvenirs from vendors -- they seem to like the U.S. dollar and you can tip in dollars.
The couple sitting next to me on the return flight had done the GCT tour and loved it and the Marriott in Cairo.
