Power Plug Strips and Safari Camera Bag?
HI,
I leave in 29 days!!!!!!!! Down to the last packing items. All of my chargers work 110/220 but I am thinking to take a power strip so I can plug in multiple chargers at once. Is this a good idea?
The, I am carying on all of my luggage so I have a Crumpler messenger bag with all camea stuff in it and a small wheelie which will get converted to a duffle once I heit Nairobi. I am thinking to take a small nylon Eagle Creek back pack to use when on safari for my camea equipment. I am thinking if I keep my 10D w lens and 30D w lens in plastic bags within in I should be okay. the Crumpler bag is too big for the road and yet it work just fine for a "purse," camera bag for the planes (I think) What say you experts (where would I bee without all of you and this web site?)
Thanks for the feedback.
Oh, will a Goretex REI type jacket be ok for Kenya early am's and nights? It squishes down pretty good in th luggage.

Depending on where you're staying, there may not be sufficient power to plug "everything" into a power strip. You may blow all the juice there is. And then, what do you or other guests do.
I don't know how many of what you have, but we managed recharging every other day, often when we were on game drives or overnight. We'd alternate batteries in cameras with fresh newly charged, as needed. One battery (or set of batteries) in camera, a back-up with us, the third being recharged.
Rethink the power strip, you're not back home. Most camps are powered by generators or solar. You won't find major electrical towers popping out in the Mara, Serengeti or Zambia, Botswana, or elsewhere once you leave main cities.

A small backpack to take camera stuff to the car is a good idea but once in the car, quick access is important so you don't miss shots and so is keeping the dust off the equipment.
What I found handy for my camera equipment was a ziplock bag to keep the camera in between shots (it's so dusty I had to change ziplocks every other day). I also found my safari vest very useful as I can kept a lens pen and Hurricane Jumbo Blower very handy to get the dust off the lens after shots (we got lots of use for these items) and not to dig for them in a bag.
