Yes, accidents do happen. I also noticed that she went with safari par excellence, I went with Shearwaters. Maybe safpar doesn't have the same sctrictness when it comes to the life jackets. Otherwise, I could not see a way that it would come come off by accident.

Tacos10,
Is this is from Livingstone? If so, we had a rafting trip organized with Bundu adventures during our stay at Kwando's Songwe village. They were top notch!!! Can't mention enough about their safety standards. However, i suppose these things are not without risk as this case appears ......

I have said it before and I'll say it again:
THAT IS A DANGEROUS RIVER: PERIOD.
When yopu go overboard no-one can be blamed, not you, not the guide, not the outfitter nor your cohorts in the raft, nobody. You get sucked down and you can perish. End of story!
Many tourists have done it sucessfully and a couple haven't.
I have been numerous times, however never again, I lost a friend to the river and on my last trip I had a close call and that has scared the daylights out of me.
I am sorry the young lass and sympathise with her family.

I didn't think of the powerful forces of the river on that particular day! Infact, a 14 yr old cousin of ours was on the rafting trip too and thoroughly enjoyed himself! Once should suffice, though .......
