Predator Biologist,
Wow, did you really have lame guiding at Mombo? Did they give you a new guide?
Sniktawk,
Our guide was not even mentioned in the list of young guides from HariS which leads me to think he was quite new. There were 9 guests in camp.
The photographers were lovely: 2 men from California (one a semi-pro and the other an enthusuastic amateur) and the other was a solo traveler on safari who was also an amateur. They all had "the gear", including over 1500 GB of memory (this was just one of them!). At one sighting our car was next to them and it sounded like a fashion shoot.
Speaking of photographers, the staff at Lebala and one of the guests (the solo traveler) were talking about someone named Johan who is at the camp frequently and is writing a book (and doing the photography too). I could not help but wonder if they were talking about Skimmer?

Geoff,
Naturally, I remember well that Lagoon experience of yours. We would have been with you, but Y and I missed that drive and took a boat trip on the Kwando instead because the long road transfer through the sand-drifts from Zib the previous day had knocked her arthritis about.
It was only the second time I'd passed up a drive (the other was because of illness), and the only time I was glad I did. I couldn't believe an operator could treat clients the way you and Peter were treated. It was evident they put money first.
John

Melissaom: it was back in 2003 but Mombo was considered the premiere camp then too, and the guide was terrible and even left us alone in the bush while he wandered off to sneak a smoke during tea & sundowners. No we were not given another guide as management at that time was as bad as the guide if not worse. Fortunately for you management took action and improved your experience! These types of things can happen at virtually any camp it would seem.
