Need Travel Insurance info for Kenya & Tanzania

My husband and I are traveling to Kenyz and Tanzania June-July 2006 and was wondering what company should we use for our travel medical insurance. We only need insurance for the time that we will be there (not including air). Did anyone use the insurance while they were there and what did it cover.

We used Travel Guard for our time in Africa only and we actually had to file a claim which they were quick to reimburse. Go to insuremytrip.com to see which one might be best for you.

Yamini - I'm using Travel Guard for my upcoming trip to Zambia. I, too, did a comparison on Insuremytrip.com. Your needs will depend on what kind of health issues you have and the coverage you're most comfortable with.

thanks for the info. what kind of claim did you have to file (if it's not too personal)? Did you have to pay up front and then submit your receipt when you returned to the states?

You might also consider joining the Flying Doctors Society, which would airlift you to a hospital, should the need arise. Your ground operator should be able to do sign you up. It runs about $20. To see more about the service, go to www.amref.org. It's also possible to sign up online.
