A magnificent antelope also often referred to as the crazy kudu often tries to outrun the vehicle as you drive past.

Makes sense to watch out & give it a wide berth, with a good possibility of them crashing into the car when alarmed. Its dry and lean meat is often on menu in Namibian restaurants.

The Big B
The two of them sharing a waterhole. Truce amidst tension. Both with a lousy temper.

The 'White ' Rhino is generally said to be the colour of their last mud bath.

Wide or 'Wyd' an Afrikanns word for a wide mouth of the beast,is the reason for the corrupted name' White ' Rhino.Notice his flat wide muzzle.

This, then has to be a white elephant

The Desert Dwelling Elephants of the Kunene region.
A male in Musth. They live in sandy desert, rocky mountains and arid gravel plains in Namibia's northwest.

Initially, an adventurous bull ventured far south; he was named “Voortrekker”, meaning “first walker”. Later he brought breeding herds, and now the Ugab River area has become home to approximately 31 elephants.

They are said to have a smaller body mass with proportionally longer legs and seemingly larger feet than other elephants adapted to travel in arid conditions.

They live in smaller family units made up of only two or three animals, thereby decreasing pressure on food and water resources

I had to do the journey to Swakopmund from Damaraland in one day as per the schedule but the lure of the Skeleton coast and Cape Cross was irresistible. Decided to do the 700 km detour along the desolate Atlantic seaboard and was well rewarded.
Ruins of an oil rig

its stark beauty against a desolate land

rusting and twisted metal now a home to breeding seabirds

The notorious coastline was a graveyard for ships

Cape Cross with its colony of Cape Fur Seals raises a lot of 'stink'.......
Digested and semi-digested seafood buffet in the form of poo is an absolute olfactory assault.

Mum nursing the pup

Tens of juveniles basking along with their mothers

A healthy population in the middle of nowhere

Thank you Cali, Leely. Namibia is indeed a very different country. It dosen't conjure up,nor fit into, the usual "Africa' mould. Its certainly, as you mentioned Cali, qualifies as "The Peaceable Kingdom" for the redeemed souls. If you haven't already been there, would highly recommend it.
Though, self drive is the best option for Namibia, there are also a lot of travel companies offering various services, including assisted tours and conducted (fixed) tours. One such name that comes to mind is The Cardboard Box Company.

I did not use them. I hired the vehicle from Odyssey.Went my own way, as usual. Though they were not the best, do shop around, there are many more.
I was also recommended Damien Morel,a freelancing tour guide.

Again,its a recommendation. I've not used him.

Solitaire a small desert outpost.
On the way to Sesriem & Sossusvlei

An isolated settlement in the Khomas Region of central Namibia. Last pit stop to re-fuel in the only gas station in miles. Moose-McGregor's desert bakery,a 'Dessert Oasis' known for the legendary apple strudel, includes a general store and a small lodge.

Probably belonged to the first inhabitants adds a peculiar twist to the harshness of the desert.
