Hello again. I couldn't help adding a few comments to the last couple of posts.
Yes, there are game viewing opportunities in central Namibia; however, and in my opinion, this is a big however, they don't nearly compare to the game vewing of Etosha. I believe Cardboard Box refers to "nature drives" which is means that you might see some buck or giraffe, maybe a warthog, and birds. These game farms are great for an overnight, but I wouldn't substitute them for Etosha. Incidentally, the rates for Etosha are the same year round. There is no high or low season. At the moment they are not posted on the Namibia Wildlife Resorts webpage, but I did find them on resafrica.net/nwr/okaukuejo/. The rates for "next year" reflect what I paid to book for August 2007.
As for September in SA, I have spent the last three Septembers mainly in the Cape. While it isn't beach weather, I find the weather quite pleasant with temperatures generally in the mid-to-high 60s. Further north in Johannesburg and the Kruger Park area, it is even warmer. A word of caution though, you can still get a cold spell at this time of the year! All in all, I think September is a great month to be in SA.

Lucky you to be going to Namibia! I don't have answers to any of your specific questions, but I can say that no matter where you go in Namibia you will love it.
Having done the Great Namibian Journey -Sossusvlei, Swakopmund, Palmwag, Damaraland/Twylfelfontein, Etosha and the Skeleton Coast -I would heartily recommend all of those places - altho' I don't know which are malaria free. Also, in most of those areas, altho' there was plenty of beautiful wildlife -springbok and other antelopes, zebras, impalas, birds, ostriches, wildebeest, to name a few - the attraction is really the spectacular scenery.The "big five" are not in abundance - so I don't know how much of a factor that is for you.
All of our camps were tented, with the exception of Ongava Lodge at Etosha (wonderful, so keep that in mind for when you go back
so I can't offer suggestions as to accommodations. But I do agree with the suggestion of minimum 2, preferably 3, days at each camp.
