I still strongly recommend reaching out to a tour company and asking the questions you have in mind, especially when it comes to pricing. In my experience, when I was planning my second trip to Morocco with my family, I reached out to Tours in All Morocco. They were very helpful in answering my questions about what would be convenient for my kids, which activities would be enjoyable for them, and also about prices and what to expect in different parts of the itinerary. They even shared a few practical tips that helped improve the itinerary and made the route smoother and even more enjoyable for all of us.
Once they respond to your questions, I am sure it will make planning your itinerary much easier. You’ll have a better idea of the daily costs like the car, driver, guides, and accommodations..., which will help avoid building an itinerary that later turns out to be over budget.
It’s also helpful if you’re thinking of adding extra activities or special experiences along the way. You can simply ask about the price of those as well and if they fit or not, just to get an idea. That way you can adjust your plans early and avoid ending up with a package that’s more expensive than expected.

Thanks very much for all your responses! I tried reaching out to another operator to see if I have better luck getting my specific questions answered. Will circle back once I get further.
On another note, curious about folks’ thoughts on Air Maroc? The reviews I’ve read haven’t been great so I was planning to fly with a US or European carrier. Air Maroc seems much more efficient though with their direct flights . . . Opinions on this?

Hi sueblue , Sorry for the late reply. From what I remember, my friend was actually the first one to get in touch with them. I think she came across their name through ads while she was researching Morocco trips. and what really encouraged her to continue the conversation was their good reviews on TripAdvisor, along with how helpful and responsive they were when answering her questions and clarifying the itinerary details.Let me check with her and grab their TripAdvisor page. I’ll send it to you once I get it from her.

As you can see the reviews are newer, so were you talking about Tripadvisor or somewhere else?

Your links are simply taking me to Trip Advisor lists of things to see / do in Marrakech.
IMO, Trip Advisor is NOT a good way to research travel options, whether for specific sites or for tours. There is no guarantee that TA reviews are authentic.

-->Thanks Kja and Wahafhoney for your recent comments and sorry for my absence from this board! Several things have changed, including our dates.
Kja, you continue to astonish me with your knowledge as I was just reading through Elisabeth54’s thread! I did purchase the Moon Guide yesterday to help with this process, per your suggestion.
Before I dive into our itinerary again, can anyone comment on whether the Kasbah area is a good location for our hotel in Marrakech? We don’t want to be on top of the main square but do want to be centrally located and have access to transportation, particularly since I’m arriving solo and will have 1.5 days in the city myself.
We ended up moving our trip to Oct when it is a bit cooler and when my friend will able to take more time off. Here is our new itinerary and please excuse how detailed this post is . . . I just think it helps trigger suggestions.
Wed – Arrive Marrakesh Solo mid-afternoon, Sleep Marrakech
Thurs – Tour Marrakesh Solo Full Day with Guide, Sleep Marrakech
Fri – Friend Arrives, Tour Marrakesh Full Day with Guide, Sleep Marrakech
Sat – Roam Around Marrakesh on our Own, Sleep Marrakech
NOTE – Can’t pull a day from Marrakesh since my Friend arrives late afternoon Thurs
Sun- Leave Marrakesh early AM for Dessert. Drive 3.5 hours to Ouarzazate. Do Atlas Film Studio Tour (I never watched Game of Thrones so hope it’s worthwhile?), Ait Ben Haddou, Taourirt Kasbah, Fint Oasis). Sleep Ouarzazate
Mon – Drive early AM for Dades Gorge (2.0 hour drive). Spend time climbing around, drive to Todra Gorge (2 hours), hike around, visit Berber village. Sleep Todra Gorge
Tue- Depart Todra Gorge for Erg Chebbi (3 hour drive). Arrive Erg Cebbi mid-afternoon. Camel Trek, Sleep Dessert Camp.
Wed – Full Day Activities in Dessert – ATV, Hike, Sand-Board, Visit Villages, Sleep Dessert Camp
Thurs – Depart Erg Chebbi for Fes (7 hour drive), Sleep Yes
Fri – Tour Fes Full Day with Guide, Sleep Fes
Sat – Roam Around Fes on our Own, Sleep Fes
Sun – Early AM - Depart Fes for Chefchaouen (4 hour drive), Tour with Guide, Sleep Chefchaouen
Mon – Roam around Chefchaouen on our Own (or hike Waterfalls), Depart Chefchaouen 6PM for Rabat (4 hour drive), Sleep Rabat.
Tues – Tour Rabat Full Day with Guide, Sleep Rabat
Wed – Friend departs for US early AM, I go on a Group Tour, Sleep Rabat
Thurs – Depart Solo for US
Questions –
1) We really love the dessert so we decided to add a day for Ouarzazate and a day in the Gorges to break up the drive and absorb the scenery. If this is too much time, we can instead add another full day in the true dessert in Merzouga. Thoughts on this?
2) During my first day in Marrakech, I was thinking of going to Imlil instead of touring the city myself or with a guide. It looks like Imlil is only a 90 minute drive. Thoughts on this so I won't repeat anything my friend wants to see? Will two days be enough to see the major sights, including the Jewish quarter and for us to roam around?
3) Per my question at the beginning of this post, is the Kasbah area of the Marrakesh medina centrally located? We don’t want to be on top of the square (it doesn’t look very appealing around there anyway), though we want to be close to all the main attractions and be taxi accessible since I will be arriving solo. I found a property in the Southern end of the Medina which looks like a really nice choice.
4) Any other comments appreciated!
Thanks so much for reading!!

Thanks so much for reading!
Kja, you continue to astonish me with your knowledge as I was just reading through Elisabeth54’s thread! I did purchase the Moon Guide yesterday to help with this process, per your suggestion. [img alt="

Sorry, but I can’t answer most of your questions. I’ll add what I can!
2) I think taking the time to go to Imlil would mean shortchanging Marrakech. I had 3.5 very full days in that delightful city – and I filled every minute of every day! There were certainly things that I would have liked to see that I didn’t have time to include. That said, only you can decide what you want to see and experience and at what pace. Once you and your friend agree on what you will do with your shared time, you can determine whether there’s enough that you want to see to keep you busy. And don't ignore the potential impact of jet lag.
If you pursue your plan for Imlil, how would you get there? You won’t be safe to drive for at least 36 hours after a trans-Atlantic flight. Too, sunset would be between 6 and 7 p.m. I have trouble imagining that you would have time to settle into your lodging and get on your way to that town in time to actually see anything there and get back before sunset – which is what I would want. Maybe you see it differently. And remember that the estimate of 1.5 hours might be too low – you would need to get in and out of the city's traffic, you might face traffic on the roads, etc.
3) I’m confused by your desire to stay somewhere near taxis. Most of the places tourists want to see in Marrakech are in the medina, where there are no taxis except in a few limited areas. One walks. The one major site that most tourists want to see that is outside the medina is the Jardin Majorelle -- and it's not so far that a taxi would necessarily be required, depending on where one starts.. Of course, if you want to go clubbing, then yes, you’ll need taxis. If taxis are critical for your purposes, you would probably want to make sure you are near one of the city gates so you could step onto a road where there might be a stand (I think the Moon Guide covers the locations of grand taxi stands) or where taxis might pass by.
Whether the Kasbah is “centrally located” depends on what you want to do in Marrakech. It’s near many things that tourists visit; it’s not so close to others. But unless you have mobility limitations, the entire medina is walkable – or at least, that’s how I found it. IIRC, the nearest city gate would be Bab Agnaou. The one time I tried to get a taxi there (because I had a dinner reservation in a different part of the medina), I had to wait about 10 or 15 minutes before one passed. I have no idea if that’s normal.

Hi everyone, as this is the most recent Morocco forum conversation a general question if I may: We are lucky to have a private Moroccan tourguide throughout our trip. (Marrakech - via the Atlas Mountains to the desert and from there up North to Fez and Meknès). He came with great recommendations via a dear Spanish/English friend who knows Morocco like the back of her hand.
Have any of you on this forum travelled this way and if so my question is: how much would you tip the guide at the end of the journey? All advice welcome as always! Thanks a lot.

Thanks, Kja . . . Very helpful thoughts and I am going to scratch Imlil and stay in Marrakech.
As far as taxi accessible in the Medina, I just meant that I don’t want to have a 15-20 minute walk dragging my bag by myself after an over-night flight with jet lag (unless a porter meets me though I’m not sure how that works). Is there not just a central location in the Medina that is convenient for restaurants and things in general . . . regardless of what sights we visit and
without being in the middle of chaos?
Also, regarding Ait Ben Haddou, it seems like it would be fun to spend around 2-3 hours there though some tours go through in 20-30 minutes. Same with the gorges. I think we will be frustrated by that . . . Hurrying to the next stop without seeing the current one. That is why I’m so focused on getting the dessert piece right because my friend and I are both very active and I would hate to drive through the gorges with a wave and a 5 minute walk.
Elisabeth54, I can’t wait until you get back so I can hear about your guide and how the trip and pace worked out! 😊
Btw, if anyone knows how to edit the post above with all of the gobbledygook, please lmk.
