What hotel did you choose to stay at in Cairo? I'm going to Cairo in 2 weeks and debating whether to stay at The Mena House, for the pure sake of having the pyramids in sight, or Cairo where most of the sights and action is. We will only be in Cairo for 2 days.
What was the weather like?
Thank you.
Margarita

We stayed at the Conrad Hilton - it opened about 8 months ago and we loved it. Ask for a pool /Nile view. Ask for Wael on the concerege desk and he will welcome you like a friend of the family.
Tell him Bill recommended the hotel.
If you are only going to be there 2 days spend 4-5 hours at the Pyramids, go for a camel ride and visit the markets Kana hel laylee ( phonetic spelling ). Go to the Egyption Museum and visit the Papyris Institute. Get the concerge to write the destination on a card(in Arabic)give it to the cab driver and ask how much-negotiate to at least half of what they ask for.The cabs at the hotels have to pay the hotel-walk across the street and flag one down.
The weather was cool at night 12 c and 25-28 c during the day

Always bottled water-no ice cubes and no salads for your health.
Bring anti-biotics if you can along with immodium just in case.
Spend time with the people in the markets and find out what kind and generous people they are.
Enjoy your trip
Bill

Bill,

Glad to hear you had a great trip. Egypt is my dream destination. Did you leave from the US or the continent? How long in advance did it take to plan your trip with the tour operator? And, can you give me some ball park pricing. We would be departing from San Francisco.

Thanks for any info you can give me.

Dear Roger
We left from Canada but chose to purchase our package without air. we then looked for air only to Cairo with a stop-over in Europe and found a good price through a travel agency that uses a consolidator. We bought a package 9 days complete with cruise on the Nile but also arrived before the tour just to have some time in Cairo to look around on our own.If you add the air and package price together you'll know what is the best deal. we chose to give ourselves more options as this once in a lifetime - will never see another millennium in Egypt in my lifetime.
Good Luck
Bill

Hi Bill: I'm thinking of going to Egypt either this summer, July - it might be too hot for us - or December at Christmas time. Can you give me more details on who you booked with, I'll be leaving from Toronto. Looking at the brochures of packages offered, it seems to me it might be cheaper to book the land only and book air sep. as you did.
Hi Bill, Good to hear that you had a great time in Egypt We will be there in March. Have a question about the transportation between Luxor and Aswan. We have read that travel by Service Taxi requires a convoy with police escort. Do you know if this is still true.? Thank you for any info.

Hi Nina
Allow lots of time to just take in the country. Nothing planned and plenty of time to talk to the people of Egypt. For me and my family this was the best part. Of course the pyramids and the nile cruise didn't hurt.Enjoy your trip. We booked separately and took a stop over to spend some time in the alps.
Good Journey
Bill

Bill, thankx for offering to answer questions. We are taking what will probably be our last "family" vacation. Our dau is a college sophmore, so she will soon be on her own. Everyone wants to go to Egypt. Unfortunately, we will be traveling in August. Hopefully we'll be able to tolerate the heat. My questions are:
Where did you locate Spring tours? How did you locate the Giselle? I do all the booking for our trips, but I am not having much luck finding things out for Egypt. Thanks Joye [email protected]
Hi Bill,
I am a college student, and my family lives in italy at the moment for the military. We have planned a trip for Egypt to see the pyramids and other wonderful sights. I was wondering about what kind of clothing that you have to wear. Are shorts and t-shirts appropriate? We will be there Memorial Day weekend. Thank you so much,
Lindsey
