Thanks again, everybody. I received a fax from TA of the wire transfer request. There is a number in the confirmation section from Wells Fargo--I don't know if this is the fed wire #. I did ask for it, and will ask again.
We're going to proceed with our own booking in Vic Falls, and demand a refund of that part of the trip.
I fully understand why people are encouraging me to out the TA, but I hope you can understand that since this person has my money and I am trying to get it back, I don't want to be more adversarial than I need to at this point. Maybe this is paranoid--and codependent!--but for now this is what I'm confortable with.

I would check with Amex, but generally any dispute by the charging party goes to the merchant, who bears the burden of proof. So if you paid TA with Amex, they would have to show details of the payment to the lodge.

Hi Napamatt
We have made a quick call to Amex here in Sydney (it's a holiday w'end here). And they have told us that there is a 90 day window from the date of charge for disputes. We paid our Deposit back in Dec 06! Any advice?
Cheers

I would think that the 90 day exclusion was for something that you took possession of within that 90 day period, not something booked 7 or more months out. Call them again Tuesday and explain the situation. There's no way of knowing in 90 days that this would be happening.

Someone asked when we're going--June 16! Out itinerary: 4 nights Cape Town, 2 nights Vic Falls, 3 nights Chongwe River Camp, 4 nights Kaingo. We'll be spending our first anniversary on a plane, and my birthday in Vic Falls! Problems seem to be worked out, for the most part. Hopefully TA will refund the $600 for our Vic Fall stay without us having to push it further--otherwise we'll contact Amex. The most important thing, though, is that we have places to stay everywhere, and wire transfers to the camps have been made.
Thanks everyone for your support and advice, and we'll keep you posted!
