Sounds great Rocco! We will be looking forward to you being here - and, even with a travel buddy, we have the room to put you up, just let me know.

Anyone else out there ? - the date is set for July 7th! Put it in pen on the calendar guys!

Hi LindaS. We are the North Van. family who was asking many questions back in Feb. We are now all booked and leaving Aug. 1. We would love to come to this get together if the offer still stands. Just need to know date/time/place details.
Thanks,

Hi Abbyo! How exciting to read that you've booked your safari. I hope you'll post the itinerary here on the Forum.

Lynda is in Kenya now, lucky girl!! I expect she'll be back the last week of May. On behalf of the Cdn west coast GTG group, we'd be delighted to have you come. I'm sure Lynda can squeeze a few more onto her deck . Try "booping" this post to the top again the first week of June for Lynda to see. In the meantime, would love to see what you settled on for your trip!

Ok, so here's what we came up with:

Booked a 5 day safari with Wild Africa Safaris, their office is in New Westminster,BC.

flying Nairobi to Samburu
3 nights at Sarova Shaba
flying Samburu to Masai Mara
2 nights at Kichwa Tembo
hot air ballooning here
fly back to Nairobi

From Nairobi we have booked our own flights to Zanzibar and have 6 nights there. 2 nights in Stonetown and 4 nights at Bwejuu beach. We chose this because Nungwi sounds a bit too touristy and we like it a little quieter. Hope this ends up being a good choice.

Any comments????

I know that we are actually staying at "Shaba National Park", not Samburu---does anyone know if this matters?

In Nairobi we are staying at a hotel called Lenana in the Milimani area. Not looking for anything posh, just want to be sure we are in a safe area---anyone know if this area is OK? Lonely Planet said it was. Also, we are on our own until our Safari operator picks us up the first day. Are we OK taxiing from the airport to hotel Lenana and are we then OK taking a taxi to the various places we want to see such as Langata Giraffe Center and David Shelddrick Wildlife Trust? Will there be taxis big enough to take all 5 of us at once? I really don't want to split up.

For our international flight we fly through France and Egypt so we have scheduled a 4 day stop over in Cairo to see some sights.

So, that's the plan.

Abbyo

Abbyo, you might want to post your itinerary on a separate thread to get feedback. It looks very exciting, with the stop in Cairo beforehand and the extension to Zanzibar afterward. Shaba is adjacent to Samburu and Buffalo Springs.

Abbyo - I dug this thread up as I am just going to post a new one giving the date and details, etc - we'd LOVE to have you & anyone in your family who would like to come!

For the day in Nairobi, lots of us on this board use Kennedy as a guide for the day - he is very reasonable and will pick you up from the airport, take you around wherever you like. Let me know if you would like his email address. He has a van that would definitely take 5 people.
