From Tel Aviv to Caesarea, Haifa & Rosh Hanika

Hi all,

Just curious if it's feasible to travel from Tel Aviv to Caesarea, Haifa and Rosh Hanika on my own. I'm traveling by myself. I originally thought to do a packaged tour but I'd like to go at my own pace. I know there's a train from Tel Aviv to Haifa but is there public transportation to get to Caesarea and Rosh Hanika on my own from either Tel Aviv or Haifa? Ideally I'd do Tel Aviv to Caesarea to Haifa to Rosh Hanika to Tel Aviv. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

Public transport in Israel is not that great. There are trains from Tel Aviv to Haifa and there's a stop in Caesarea, but from the train station might be a challenge. Most people I know who travel here usually rent a car.

Rent a car, because if you will stay for Shabbat, you will be closed in the city

I don't know if this is still relevant for you, but since this thread has come to life, I just wanted to chime in, as I'm trying to be more active in this forum....

You can take the train from Tel Aviv to Caesarea -- the historical site is only 15 minutes away from the train station, so you can just taxi to/from.
To continue on to Rosh haNikra, you would get back on the train and go up to Nahariya before transferring to a bus or taking another 15 minute cab ride. Upon return, you - but to get directly to Rosh haNikra from Haifa via public transit requires at least one transfer or another 20 minute taxi ride. (Obviously, you could then return to the train station in the same manner, and from there take a train back to Tel Aviv)

Let's say you left around 8am-- you would be at Caesarea around 9:30am. If you are there for 2 hours, then at 11:30 you make your way back to the train station, so by 1/1:30pm you have reached Haifa. At 3pm you leave for Rosh haNikra, so you won't get there until 4/4:30pm. In the summer, the grottos are open until 6pm but you will have a very very short visit by the time you actually arrive and descend via cable car; in the winter, they close at 4pm (which would render this plan impossible...). If you begin your return journey at 6pm, you will reach Tel Aviv by train around 8:30pm, assuming that you don't stop for dinner and that everything is working on time.....

(By contrast, if you spent the same amount of time at each site but travelled by car you would reach Caesarea at 9am, be in Haifa at noon, and at 3:30 you reach the grottos....)

It's definitely a long day, and it doesn't leave much time for exploring each site or going at a slow pace!
Personally, under the circumstances I would skip Haifa, and just focus on Caesarea and Rosh HaNikra + travel....

PS: Google maps is relatively accurate about travel times and public transit in Israel, and they are great for getting a sense of what it feasible
