Fes to Marrakesh tour

Greetings. I am a relatively experienced traveler, and I am going independently to Morocco for two weeks in January. The main purpose of the trip is photography. I want to see the desert, and to go from Fes to Marrakesh, in part due to my flight schedule, as I am leaving from Marrakesh.

Ideally, I would like to join a small budget group in Fes. But, I am not finding success so far. Most of what I saw are private tours, and since I am just going on my own, I have nobody to share the costs with. Are there many travel agencies in Fes who can help me find a group, or is this not really possible?

By a point of reference, I was able to easily book a trekking excursion in Myanmar last year and a trip to parts of Ladakh, India when I was in Leh. I would like to do something similar in Fes. Are there many travel agencies in the Medina which can add me to a trip going in a day or two? If so, any recommendations? I would like to go for 4 or 5 days.

If I understand your request, to join a group to tour from Fes to Marrakech, I think it'll be far from a sure thing. Also, if photography is your goal, as it is mine, not having the freedom of being on your own could mean you'll miss some opportunities, stuck with a fixed or semi-fixed itinerary. And I believe most such tours are booked in advance, before arrival in the country.

Morocco is an easy place to get around on your own and I'd recommend you do it that way. Inexpensive with fairly comprehensive and cheap public transport options, unless you're content to go where the group goes without the spontaneity you gain by going it alone, I think it will serve you better.

That said, I could of course be wrong about finding an agency once there that could plug you into a tour. But I'd still recommend giving it a go alone.

Don't know how you're getting to Fez, but I'd hop the train there to get to Marrakech. No need for a tour.
