I'm Canadian, and am shocked to read folks blanketing blame on all egyptians for a small group of terrorists' behaviour. Fighting radicalism with ignorance and racism doesn't 'show them'. Why do americans live in Oklahoma if some (american) terrorist bombed a building there. Is there a 'don't spend money in Oklahoma' bandwagon?

My wife and I have been planning a trip to Egypt for a while and we're still going. I can't wait to see the toursity and 'backdoor' sides of Cairo and Luxor. It will likely be a great trip - especially with so many tourists staying home.

The reality is that there has always been terrorism, it's always been a consideration traveling abroad (US, Europe, Middle East, Asia, Africa...), and the odds of finding trouble are still smaller than those of you dying on a drive to a friend's place in your car.

Travel destroys boundaries, opens peoples' minds and eyes, and makes life a hell of a lot better ride. You can let 9/11 trash that all, but I won't. I'm not big on letting psycho losers ruin more lives than they already have.

Happy travels,
Kevin

Hi all

I agree that all egyptians should not be blamed for the shocking anti-western views expressed by residents of cairo interviewed after Sept. 11.

Anyone in the middle east saying that the US (and those of many other nationalities who also died in the WTC) 'had it coming', or loaded images of planes crashing into the WTC, or those who think the bin laden tape is a 'fraud' - these people of course should be considered terrorist sympathizers and supporters - and it is very disturbing how widespread these sentiments are in some quarters. Such people are rightly targets of the war on terror and should be dealt with accordingly.

However, lets not assume all middle easterners (including egyptians) share such views. That would be unfair. At any rate, let's hope that after these terror networks and their sympathizers/supporters are brought to heel, we will be able to feel secure in travelling to unsettled regions.

Kevin,

The point is you would be going to and spending money in a country where "psycho losers" as you put it are apparently condoned by the general public. It sickens me even with a tape where Bin Laden admits his prior knowledge of the horrific event that people still won't admit his guilt. Go and spend your money in America!

Just wanted to comment on this thread. Like many Europeans, I was stunned when I saw the coverage showing a great degree of popular support for terrorism in countries that I had thought were 'friendly' to the west. The interviews of people in the streets of cairo who expressed joy at the attacks, and the celebrations in palestinian areas on Sept. 11 were just shocking.

It would not be right to blame all arabs for the attacks of course, but anyone who cheered in the streets, expressed satisfaction, or put the graphic on their pda of the strike on the wtc should be considered terrorists.

Let's not forget the government of egypt has been trying to crack down on these evil people, but until they do a better job of cracking down on those who express these outrageous attitutes all westerners should be extremely careful if they decide to travel there.

The issue of whether tourists should spend dollars to support countries where such enormous popular support for these terrorist animals is also something for people to consider.

The victims of the next murderous attack, should it occur, could be any of us - our families, or our friends. That is why we must work much harder to eliminate this threat.

Wow!!! I started this with the hope that we might get some relevent information related to travel to this area -- particularly from people that have just returned. You win some and lose some. That is life. We did not go for reasons not our doing as things were canceled. We will try sometime again. I hope you all have fun with this as it has no value otherwise for people that are interested in traveling about the world.
