Driving from Fes to Marrakech

Hello - at the end of our Morocco trip, we will need to drive back from Fes to Marrakech in a day. Can anyone recommend whether the best route is the short, direct route via Beni-Mallal (might be slower roads), or the longer route via Rabat and Casblanca (looks like a multi-lane highway on my map)?

Many thanks

Alan

If you're simlpy trying to get from Fes to Marrakech and arent sight-seeing along the way, take the autoroute via Casablanca. Its a toll road (allow about 100 dhs for tolls), but has two lanes in either direction and the speed limit is 120. It is longer - but faster given the nature of the driving conditions.

The toll road stops at Settat (it will soon extend all the way to Marrakech), so the last leg of the journey will be on smaller roads...this will slow you down a bit - but its still faster than the road via Beni-Mellal.
