Dar Es Salaam hotel
Due to several changes in airline schedules, we now are flying into Dar Es Salaam instead of Kilimanjaro for our safari, and our 14 day trip is now 16 days. We get into Dar on August 1 at 2:30 AM, and fly to Kilimanjaro on August 3 at 7:30 AM. I booked an airport hotel for the two nights at the Airport Transit Lodges just to have a place to sleep and shower but now I'm not so sure I'm going to be happy in what looks like a rather dumpy hotel. Any suggestions on where to stay in Dar that won't cost too much (around $100 per night) and will not take long to get to the airport the morning of August 3? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I've been in your situation a few times before. I'd be OK staying at Airport Transit Lodge for a few hours or maybe even a night, but for a longer stay I think I'd prefer being closer to the town/beach.
I haven't stayed at any of the hotels closer to town in the $100 range, but I have spent about $140 (Hotel Slipway) and all things considered, I would have been happier if I had spent a bit more and stayed at the Southern Sun. That was about four years ago though, options might have changed (for the better?) since then. Good luck.
