Central Kalahari 2008

As a Botswana guide, I have spent a lot of time in the Central Kalahari over the years. For years I have been trying to take my folks there, and this year the opportunity presented. I just returned from 6 fantastic days of gameviewing. The one thing that amazes me constantly, is how these animals have a natural curiosity when it comes to the 4 wheeled animals. We started our first morning with a small pride of 5 lions. 1 Black maned 2 females and 2 1year-old youngsters. A female immediately got up from her shady spot to investigate my vehicle. They cannot stop staring at the moving wheels whenever one reposition. We were also fortunate to have another 2 females with month old cubs, great leopard sighting, cheetah and can I forget the countless herds of Springbok, Gemsbok, Bat eared foxes, Honeybadgers and other game. The kalahari would not be the same without the late evening smell of the heliotropium flowers. Many people ask me, what brings excitement to an African guide after all these years, well, need I say more.

Welcome to the forum Alwyn. Are you going to post some pics of the Kalahari lions for us?

Hi Alwyn
Glad you enjoyed your CKGR trip. Sounds like you had a similar experience to us with the lions. One of them was so obsessed with the car wheels he started to chase after the car as we moved off.
Please post some CKGR lion photos if you can.
