Casablanca for a day ... Add Rabat?

Our cruise ship stops in Casablanca for one day, Saturday, Nov 20. I have read that there is not a lot to see in Casablanca after the Grand Mosque. Marrakesh seems too far away for a day visit - we would spend 5-6 hours on round trip travel. How long is the travel time from Casa to Rabat and is it an interesting city to visit? What are the highlights in Rabat. Thank you.

I would definitely recommend visiting Rabat, which is an easy 1 hr train ride from Casa Port station. See my TR for things to do - http://tinyurl.com/32fogdj - and my photos of Rabat and Casablanca are here - http://tinyurl.com/3xr8cvb For info on trains in Morocco see http://seat61.com/Morocco.htm

I would also recommend a visit to Rabat. I found it to be more interesting (architecture, etc) than Casablanca.

You will be very glad you went to Rabat. We took the ships tour. It is a one hour drive from Casa so you have plenty of time to visit the Old Town, the souks and the Oudaya Kasbah. We had time to see the highlights of Casa when we returned. We're going back in March on another cruise and I hope to get to Rabat again. It is the Capital and as one of the four Imperial Cities, it is very worthwhile.

Thanks to all for your input. We're looking forward to spending most of our day in Rabat.
