Thanks to both of you for your endless patience. I am beginning to weary of all this food planning so will leave the rest until I arrive. Selwyn, apparently the restaurant at the Mont Royal is open and I put it on my list and will let you all know about that and the others when I return. I also put in Bouillabaise to replace Topsi's. And left out LQF because I, too, do not tend to like fancy or stuffy places. I am looking forward very much to Nando's chicken! Thanks again and Zin, have a wonderful trip!!

Eezam - Africa Cafe is at 108 Shortmarket Street (at the corner of Buitengracht) - there is a parking lot right across the street. There is a map on the Africa Cafe website www.africacafe.co.za - click on the compass. You can also make a reservation via the website, which you should do soon or you may not get in.
Biesmiellah is in Bo-Kaap at 2 Upper Wale Street - walking distance from Greenmarket Square.

We went to a very nice restarant in the Wine Country last yer - Bosmans. Lovely location and excellent food.
Hari, I have also enjoyed the food at Dum Pukht at the Maurya. We used to have a Bukhara here in Toronto with the chef imported from the Oberoi and wonderful food. It was before Indian food became so popular here so closed down. Now Toronto is full of Indian restaurants. Close to my suburb, which is more Oriental than Indian, in a predominantly business area, there are about 7 Indian restaurants including one that is East African Indian, one that is south indian vegetarian and one that serves a mix of hakka and tanduri within a radius of one mile....

ekscrunchy,
Many thanks for this; didn't know about it. Seems to be a legitimate source, and the rankings seem reliable (though lists by number are somewhat meaningless) judging from the limited experience I've had.

Will be in Capetown of new years and looking for restaurants that will be somewhat flexible for my kids. I would love to take them for cape malay food one night. Also, would jardines, savoy or 95 keerom street work? Already going to the Codfather and Panama jacks, need two other restaurants for our remaining time there.

Your selection of Codfather and Panama Jacks is great; I just returned and those were two of my favorite places to eat in CapeTown for simply prepared seafood in a non-pretentious setting! Be sure to try the Mozambique prawns! Panama Jack's has some excellent deals for lunch, too.
Of the others you mention, I ate only at Savoy Cabbage. It is a relaxed and very handsome spot with a fairly broad menu and fantastic desserts. What age are your kids?
I will be writing a report on where we ate very soon so stay tuned!

If you want to take your kids for Cape Malay, I suggest going to Zorina's for lunch. It's amazing and dirt cheap. Read Selwyn's post above for specific directions on how/what to order.
Also, Selwyn really knows his food. I'd go anywhere he suggests.

Cant do lunches, too much time touring, but will try savoy cabbage and Biesmillah. I will be interesting to see what my seven year old eats, but it is as good at time to break her of the past and butter and chicken nugget habit as any.

And now every restaurant in Cape Town has almost been covered.
One of the best burgers I have ever eaten in my life was at Gourmet Burger in Cape Town, if you are in the mood for a normal little cafe typ setting and for traditional Lelapa is always good, for expensive why has noone mentioned La Colombe has it gone down that much?
