Cape Town Hot Air Balloon?
Hello
Does anyone have any info on taking a Hot Air Balloon ride in Cape Town or the Winelands? Just got a quote to do it in Pilanesberg and it's rather steep - R2700 pp. - ouch...
Thanks

Hot-air balloon rides are expensive. Not familiar with offerings in South Africa, and as I figure, based on 6ZAR = USD comes to about $450. Does this include your transfers, champagne breakfast, other?
Except for Egypt, I haven't seen balloon rides for much less than $350 and they're on the rise, running in the $400-$450 in Kenya/Tanzania.

The price does include transfers, sparkling wine, breakfast and safari drive - Although, we're staying at a lodge in Pilanesberg and breakfast and safari drive are included in our nightly fee anyway. So, we though that maybe we should try elsewhere for a ride so as not to pay twice for some services.

Click on the below link for information on Hot Air Ballooning in the Cape Winelands. The rates on the website are just under ZAR 2,000.00 per person [but not sure when last the website was updated] and this includes breakfast at the 5* Grand Roche Hotel in Paarl afterwards.

Someone once said to me that the reason hot air balloon rides are so expensive is that you are paying for the time they CAN'T go up as well as the time you do go up. That is, there are so many days when weather conditions are not suitable, that they can't take the balloon up often enough for the rates to be lower.

We're going to do a ride in Pilanesberg National Park as it's more likely that the flight will happen - weather and all that. It's only about a 50% chance in the winelands and they don't give a refund, just move you to another day.
