Hotel Near Airport

We need to find a hotel close to the airport in Johannasburg. We will fly in and out of Johannasburg while visiting South Africa. Upon arrival we will have a rental car. When we return we will not have a rental car. I'd like a hotel that has transportation to and from the airport and also either has a good restaurant or is walking distance to a restaurant. Any suggestions?

I've always stayed at the Southern Sun O.R. Tambo International Airport (now operating under Tsongo Sun). It's mid-range and only 5 minutes from JNB airport. It is much cheaper than the Intercontinental which you can walk to from the arrivals terminal and more upscale and closer than the Garden Court. The restaurant is OK as well.

Coming into JNB I have spent overnight three times at the Emperors Palace hotel complex, free shuttle, 10 min away from JNB.

Last time (2012) I stayed the City Lodge at JNB (OR Tambo). Wellll, you can see it from JNB but it took me probably 20 minutes to figure out how to get to it and then you have a long walk (on bridge) over the road and parking structures. A very blah room, and not in-expensive either.

We stayed at the City Lodge OR Tambo Airport for one night in May. It is inside the airport - walking distance from the terminal. Very easy and a decent night's sleep. (Here is info on what we did in South Africa, http://latitudeb.com/south-africa/.)

Go to my link for City Lodge ORT. You will see City setting above the parking structure. So if parking structure is within airport than it is. And you look out the airport window, can see City but there were no signs in airport directing you to the ramp to get there. Hopefully are now, but maybe not because City privately owned?

We've stayed in the Protea Hotel O.R. Tambo Airport at the beginning and end of trips. It's a modern "design hotel" type place with reasonable prices, located close to the airport. Some rooms on the upper floors have great views looking over the airport where you can see the enormous A380 airbuses parked.

Also stayed at Southern Sun O.R. Tambo International Airport. It was fine - mid range to fairly nice hotel, very short drive from the terminal. Complimentary wine and cheese in the afternoon. Decent breakfast next morning, easy return to airport. Would stay here again, and as noted above, cheaper than the Intercontinental.

As Tom suggests, any of the hotels at Emperor's Palace would be good. Their shuttle runs often and is efficient. There are several hotels at different price points and there are multiple choices for dining, from a food court in the mall area to high-end restaurants.

Thanks everyone for the multiple responses. I think we should be able to find a good choice among the suggestions.
