Cairo while pregnant
My wife and I are planning a trip to Cairo and would like some sightseeing advice. My wife will be 5 months pregnant, so we're not up for a lot of walking I'm afraid. Can anyone recommend a good tour guide in this case? I seem to remember seeing a post regarding a tour run by 'Debbie'?

Her name is Debbie Senters and this is her website: http://www.casualcairodetours.pyramids.net/
We enjoyed her very much, and I'm sure you will, too.

I would recommend Ahmed Hamed Yousif. He was our guide a few months ago and was absolutely wonderful. He will cater to your every need so that your wife feels comfortable. Also, because he takes you everywhere in a van (a nice one at that!) she wouldn't have to walk much at all if she didn't want to. His email address is: [email protected]

During our free time in Cairo we went out on our own and took the Metro and taxis around the city. The Metro was great: modern, cheap, came often, way faster and safer than the street traffic.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU AVOID TAXIS.
We were involved in two car accidents (in two days) while riding in taxis. There is so much traffic nobody can get up enough speed to do too much damage, but we were rear ended by a public bus and we really felt it.
Car accidents can be serious for pregnant women; the force of the collision can cause a placental abruption.
Arrange for a private guide and driver. It's not very expensive. Ask your guide to emphasize your desire for safe driving. I've not met Debbie, but she is highly recommended by others.
Your driver will be able to get you very close to most of the sights you want to see.
I'd recommend good travel medical insurance, and get the name/address of a good private hospital in Cairo just in case.
Your wife will be able to walk farther than you think. The most important thing is to take regular rest breaks and drink plenty of water.
You'll need to get LOTS of 1# notes for the bathroom...You need your own TP and hand cleaning towelettes; the attendants never seemed to have any, but were quite skilled at collecting their tip.
I hope the three of you have a safe and fun trip.

Wow mowmow! What horrible luck. I've been to Cairo twice (about 10 days total), taken many taxis and never even seen an accident much less been in one. Traffic is a little nutty but it seems to work. I'd be curious to know if others have been in accidents or had experiences more like mine.
Either way though its probably reasonable advice to look for a private driver if your wife is pregnant. Depending on where you are staying, your hotel might be able to arrange this for you.
Good luck!
