Cairo and Luxor Hotels with Non-Smoking Rooms
Hello,
My sister and I are going to Egypt in March 2006. Normally we prefer smaller boutique hotels and guesthouses which have more local character to large luxury hotels, but we are struggling to find places other than the Four Seasons, etc that offer non-smoking rooms (and ideally non-smoking floors).
I have asthma, and while I realise that a lot of people smoke in Egypt and that some exposure is unavoidable, I need to be able to get a decent night's sleep which means a smoke-free room.
Does anyone know of any smaller hotels in Cairo or Luxor which offer non-smoking rooms and/or floors?
Cheers,
Julian

There aren't many boutique hotels in Egypt. A couple eco lodges & that's it -- neither of which are in Cairo.
The Al Moudira in Luxor may be want you want. Here's the web site.

The other eco lodge is in Siwa -- a mere ten hours drive from Cairo.

Ask Debbie about your "no smoking" requirement when you contact her. She's right there, so knows which hotels do and which don't. In fact, I'm sure many have no smoking rooms... we were in one at the Sheraton on El Gezerah (sp) island.

Hello,
I've seen the Al-Moudira, and we'll be staying there in Luxor. It looks like a great place, and they do offer non-smoking rooms. It's Cairo which has been a bit of a problem in terms of finding a place to stay...
Cheers,
Julian

Julian,
You say you prefer smaller hotels and guest houses, check out Nileview at www.nileview.com a bed and breakfast in Cairo with great views of the Nile and pyramids, the only smoking there takes place on the balcony!
Enjoy!

Hello,
I took a look at the Nileview, and it doesn't look like it will work for us. Has anyone stayed at (or heard anything about) the Talisman Hotel de Charme at 39 Sharia Talaat Harb? It sounds like it would be a nice place, but I haven't found any reviews as it appears to be quite new.
Cheers,
Julian
