i for my part would never ever travel to the united states because there the danger exists that you get a free ticket to guantanamo simply because you followe a certain religion or don't eat pork.

YES ma'm it is safe and I am going alone for the month of August. #1 rule I have whenever I travel is to register with the US Embassy in the area you intend to visit. Not only will they know where to find you if something goes wrong "tsunami in Thailand, political unrest . . " but they are also most helpful in giving you the latest greatest help in where to go and where to avoid. They gave me this recommendation for a tour guide that does not rip people off http://www.greenrhino.co.za/

DO YOU RESEARCH and keep your personal security your top priority. I have traveled 4 continents and never had a problem following the above personal precautions. Be smart and stay safe!
