If you type in the search box safety + Egypt you will get the hundreds of opinions on this subject - and they are only opinions. Statistically, it is safe. But if fear will prevent you from having a good time, pick another destination.

The most dangerous aspect of travel to Egypt is crossing the street in Cairo.

You are far more likely to be killed, raped, assaulted, robbed or otherwise taken advantage of in some "civilised" city like Washington DC.

Crossing the street can be a killer.

That's the only dangerous aspect of Cairo.

Otherwise, the rest of the country is too amazing to miss.

The only time I ever felt uncomfortable is on arrival/departure - especially at the domestic airport and also in Luxor - entirely too many people wanting to carry our luggage in exchange for a tip. The people selling souvenirs can also be somewhat aggressive, and often follow up. Just keep repeating a firm "la la la" (Arabic for "no, no, no&quot and they eventually leave you alone.
