I'll be visiting Governor's Camp (not Little Governor's Camp) in the fall. If you've been there recently can you tell me how you would rate the tents/accommodations? Thanks.

Have been there last yr and the place is just awsome yu will be truly amazed.

Johnnyp2 is a new member with so much information to share over just these past 3/days... where have you been previously? In Kenya or elsewhere?

I stayed there last September and thought the tents were fine. It's a big camp, but all the vehicles scatter once outside the gate. See if you can get Samuel as your guide (or the senior guide, Moses.) The tents either face the plains or the river; we were on the river side. The hippos came by every night and "mowed" the grass. One night, we had a family of elephants feeding all around our tents for hours... quite exciting!

Governors main is quite a large camp with 37 tents. Feels like a boutique hotel with tents rather than a camp as such.
Of course it's louder and lacks kind of intimacy which you have at smaller camps but it's very good value for money. And the location is excellent.
The tents lack a bit of privacy as they are relatively close together.
But governors makes up for all that by location, location, location!

For me personally I would choose Littl. Governors or Il Moran.

But you will be happy with Governors and the drives!

Maybe while there during lunch time you can arrange for a walk on the other camps in order to familiarize yourselves.

If you stay at Governor's, ask to take out a boxed breakfast and stay out all morning. Otherwise, you'll go out before breakfast, come back in to eat, then go out again... a waste of game-viewing time.

Thanks to all for the input and pointers! Actually, I booked a bit late and ended up with 3 nights at Governors and 1 at LG; so, I'm looking forward to trying each.

Am I right that I can still get the visa after arrival at NBO, rather than futzing around with my passport in the mail here in the U.S.?

YEPP - visa on arrival. Maybe you can print out the form in advance (embassy page). You don't need a photo! I think also for US citizens it's 25US$.

ShaiTay's advise is excellent - I forgot about it.
Try to make it either full morning or even better full day.
Guides have exact knowledge on crossings - where most probaly a crossing takes place.
As crossings mostly happen during the peak heat of the day (between 11.00 and 15.00 - but hey, they have no watches ;-) ) make sure you also do a full day drive at least ONCE!
