6-Hour Layover at Amman Airport

I've got a long layover in Amman Jordan during my trip home in April. Looking for suggestions of someplace nearby to visit. I'm interested in culture and history mainly. Or someplace to just get a feel of what jordan is like.

Madaba is fairly close to the airport, which is well south of Amman. Small town, very nice mosaics.

Maybe grab an airport taxi to head north (of Amman) to Jerash... beautiful ruins. On the way back and quick tour of Amman itself.

If you choose to leave the airport, you'll, no doubt, have to purchase a Jordanian Visa, which is less than USD$50 (maybe $30... it's been awhile since I've been).

Should you leave the airport, be sure to be back 2/hrs prior departure to allow for check-in/security.
