Saly Lake City to Teton/Yellowstone and back in 8 days
We are doing a trip to theUS in Aug that includes renting an RV for 8 days and going up to Yellowstone from Salt Lake City. We would like to visit Grand Teon area too. I don't know the area so would be very grateful for any suggested routes, RV parks and must see sights. Thanks

Hi Sonia,
Since you are renting an RV, you need to plan on a full day's drive up and back. You also need to realize how popular these parks are and that you will need reservations for campsites for your RV asap, especially if you want hookups.
SOMETIMES you can get a camp site IF you arrive before 8am. Don't count on availability at all after that.
Check out the US Gov Natl Park Service web site. It's good. There is much to see and do. Use the search function above and put in Yellowstone. TONS of info, everything you need to know.
You will have 6 days. I would do 2 days in the Jackson/Teton area and 4 in Yellowstone. Your boys would probably enjoy a whitewater raft trip on the Snake. There are many companies that do trips out of Jackson.
Have fun planning!

sonia - you picked a beautiful place to visit. 8 days is just right - 2 days Grand Tetons and 4 days Yellowstone and 2 travle days is perfect. If you can fly into Jackson Hole it is much closer and you'll have less travle time. If you can rent a car and tow it behind the RV it would be helpful. Driving an RV in YS is a bit scary.

Depending on how much hiking you wantto do at Grand Teton, the Painbrush, Hidden Falls and Jenny Lake trails are not overly steep and offer some really nice view. Colter Bay and Signal Mountain are good campgrounds in the Park.

I did consider flying into Jackson Hole but decided to pick up the RV in SLC as we'll be driving from san diego, to phoenix, on to grand canyon then up to SLC.
I did wonder about how easy it would be to drive round yellowstone. I'm a bit nervous about driving something 32 feet long. To be homest though the thought of towing a car on the back of it fills me with dread!
Now I'm thinking I should have just hired a car and booked a few hotels?..
I really do appreciate all your advice, if you ever fancy coming over to the UK, in particular the South West I'll be happy to offer any advice......thanks

You are probably to late to get into the lodges "in park". Most of the national parks campgrounds dont have hookups. I think you will have a great time in the rv, just try to reserve a spot ASAP. You will find plenty to do there. You might take your boys to Boiling River for a swim.

What kind of a vehicle are you planning to use to drive "from san diego, to phoenix, on to grand canyon then up to SLC."? Wouldn't that serve for the rest of the trip?
(I'm probably misinterpreting what your itinerary is.)
