Public Transportation Getty Museum
Trying to visit Getty Museum by public transportation - Getty web site states that Metro Rapid Line 761 stops at main gate of museum.
I will be on a cruise that returns to port of LA (San Pedro) at 8:00 AM on a Saturday. I am planning on staying Sat night at a LAX hotel, before flying home on Sun. Would like to spend Saturday at Getty Museum (closes late on Sat) and possibly have dinner at the museum.
I'm assuming that I should arrange a shuttle from the port to airport or hotel, check-in, and leave luggage. I don't want to rent a car again, as will be turning one in prior to cruise, after touring southern CA.
Once I get rid of my luggage, any ideas on best way to connect with public transportation from airport hotel? I will also call museum and hotel but any ideas or suggestions for better ways to maximize my time at the museum would be appreciated. Lottie

Check: www.metro.net On the "Metro Trip Planner" section on the right side, input your hotel address as the starting point and "Getty Center" (not Getty Museum or Getty Villa) as your ending point. Be sure also to specify that you are traveling on a Saturday.

lvk, Thank you.
I was on that site before but entered LAX airport and didn't get any useful info. This time I entered a hotel address and now it makes more sense. Starts with Flyaway bus from terminal 8, then one transfer. The return at night is to a bus center, so I assume that's not at the airport. Do you know if 761 is a bus or other type of transport?
Thanks again, Lottie

This is one time I definitely rent a car. Rentfrom the port to return to LAX. With low weekend rates it should come in quite a bit cheaper than a shuttle and the Flyaway rides etc.
The trouble with the Flyaway is that it leaves from inside the airport. So You'd have to shuttle into the airport from your hotel, ride around on the Flyaway while it picks up at each terminal, ride it to Westwood, wait for the bus transfer, etc etc etc.
Sat and Sun morning traffic won't be bad and Getty is a straight shot on the freeway from airport hotels. Or, consider Hotel Angeleno right around the corner from Getty Center. Their drop-down rate menu usually has some great special rates. It's an easy freeway hop from the port, and on Sun morning just a 15 min spin back to the airport, straight freeway all the way.
Getty is a great restaurant choice for your goodbye evening by the way, be sure to make reservations!

You could also check Grayline or viptoursandcharters.com to see if they have a tour available that works within your time slot. They generally pick up at the LAX hotels.
If you decide to rent a car, I believe that Enterprise has offices near the port in San Pedro.

You can try calling Enterprise but they may charge you an arm and leg for a one-way car rental from port to LAX. Plus, Enterprise does not have good weekend hours.
It really is not difficult to use public transit. Line 761 is a Metro Rapid bus that stops at the Getty Center and wraps around the back side of UCLA (on Hilgard) with a stop (southbound) at Wilshire/Westwood. You'd have to walk a few blocks thru Westwood Village to the Kinross/Weyburn. It won't be a problem. Note that the return Flyaway only runs until 10pm, and only hourly, on Saturdays.
And yes you have to take a hotel shuttle (or cab) between the hotel and LAX to catch the Flyaway bus but the good news is that it is nonstop from the airport.
