Average Passport Renewal Time

For those of you who renewed your passports since the beginning of 2007, how long did it take without expediting service?

My son sent his application from San Diego about the 20 of January and still hasn't received it. Hubby sent it expedited Feb 1st and got it a week ago. We leave last week of March for Mexico so hope son gets it!

I applied for a passport for my infant son the last week of Dec 2006 (almost the beginning of 2007) and received it the last week of January. So it took a little under 6 weeks.

Average time is 6 weeks (although according to the link below, it's been upped to 8 weeks currently). It could be longer or quicker depending on the demand. Expedited is usually about 2 weeks.

Just happen to come back from the license bureau, and someone was ahead of me applying for their renewal and the gal told them it would be anywhere from 6-8 weeks.

Funny thing. My wife and I renewed ours in late 2006. Did the exact same paperwork in the exact same way, had new pictures taken and affixed them in the same way, addressed them in separate envelopes so as to avoid confusion on their end, and dropped them in the mail together.

She got hers in about 3 1/2 weeks.

I got mine in about 7 weeks.

I applied in early January and just found out from the passport website my renewed version should be arriving today.

BTW~You can go to the US Passport website and check on the status of your application.

Oh, you can check the status now? Thank you, Pam! Good to know.

I will renew mine in April, after the next trip.

I sent in my passport renewal on December 22, and received my passport on Jan 28th, about 5 weeks.

No expediting, and no RFID on the new passport.

At the end or January, the rules changed so that US citizens are required to have a passport to fly to the US from Canada. This may account for the length of time to get a passport in the past month. I applied for a renewal January 8 (six weeks ago) and am still waiting. According to the website, my passport should arrive in about one week.
