Help with trip to South America in October

We have decided to visit South America in October & would like help in planning where to go & how much time we should spend in each place. We have 3 weeks & would definitely like to see Brazil & Argentina, should we add another country or would this be too much? In Brazil we thought we'd spend 3 nights in Rio & then fly up to Salvador Bahia & hire a car for a few days before flying to the falls. As for Argentina we haven't really looked at anything yet except of course B/Aires. As we've just started our planning we're open to any ideas.
Thanks

ttt

Has noone ever done this trip?

If we should spend the 3 weeks in one country that's not a problem we just need an itinerary, either for Argentina or Brazil

I am planning a trip to Argentina in November. I have gotten a great deal of good advice from this forum and trip advisor. I found that the distances are vast and the options almost limitless. So, when asking for help it is a good idea to indicate your interests, your fitness level and your budget . The more specific the question the more likely you are to get a response.
A good starting point for Argentina planning is Giovanna's excellent trip report. She will send it to you if you email her at [email protected]
I got really ovewhelmed with my choices and finally hired Cintia of WOW! Argentina. She has been very helpful in planning my trip and narrowing the itinerary to something manageable which will give me a taste of Argentina without spending half my trip in airports! I am grateful for her help. Buen viaje.

We stayed at a lovely resort in Salvador Bahia which we highly recommend...Praia do Forte Eco Resort. We loved it. Almost everybody was from Brazil but very friendly. They have website. Google will give you website. In Salvador we stayed one night at Sofitel near airport which was so much nicer than the website showed. But it is a distance from the city. In the city we stayed at Pestana Bahia Hotel...do not recommend. At the falls stay at the Tropical Cataratas EcoResort..by far the best and great location. Do go to Argentina to see the falls on that side as well. But the speedboat is best on the Brazil side. In Rio we stayed at the Marriott (points). It was fine but so were other hotels. You will love Brazil.

Well, we've decided not to combine the 2 countries but to visit them separately,we will only visit Argentina this year & need some help with an itinerary. We're thinking about 5 nights in Buenos Aires, 2 nights at the Falls, 1 week in Patagonia & the last week in the North West area. How does this sound? are we spending too much/little time in each area.Uruguay is so near Buenos Aires that if I can find a couple of extra days I wouldn't mind making a quick visit. Bearing in mind this itinerary can someone advise us on the best means of transport, we would prefer a hire car rather than bus trips.
Thanks

First, you will need to fly between these places as they are extremely far apart. Our first trip to AR went like this: 2 nights BA, 2 nights Iguazu Falls, 3 nights Ushuaia, 2 nights Puerta Natalas w/day trip to Torres del Paine in Chile, 1 night Puerto Montt, 3 nights Bariloche, 2 nights BA. We flew between all locations and have guided tours (except for Iguazu and Bariloche) at each location.

I highly recommend you get in touch with a travel agent in BA to assist you with your travels. I have used Mercedes at Argentina Escapes twice and our trips have been perfect. She has a lot of great ideas. We went to Uruguay on this trip for 3 nights at the Four Seasons in Carmelo, after travelling the Northwest. In retrospect, a day trip to Colonia would have been fine. We really enjoyed the Llao Llao in Bariloche the year before for our "splurge".

There is a lot to see in Argentina, I think October is when you may see the whales migrating, in that case, you may want to spend some time in the Puerto Madryn area. Again, a TA will steer you in the right direction.
