Manchester NH to PEI

Manchester NH to PEI
We're planning a trip to PEI from June 30-July 9. We are 2 adults that enjoy driving or bicycling around, wandering around historic or scenic towns, good restaurants, high tea.
And of course we'll do a little Anne of Green Gables sightseeing. Love the "Anne with an e" reminders!
If we leave Manchester NH around 6pm, where should we plan on stopping for the night? We can do 3-5 hours. Or do you think we should wait until the morning if there's no good stopping place in that timeframe?
We're totally open as to where to stay in PEI - waterfront preferred. We like country inns.
Also, we've heard so much about Cape Breton and southern NS as well. Will we be able to spend a few days on PEI and still drive through Cape Breton and the south on the way home - or are we packing too much into 9 days (that includes the RT drive from Manchester)?

Bangor, Maine is about 200 miles from Manchester, so on a regular night that would be a good place to stop -- lots of inexpensive motel choices near the highway and you'd be there before 10pm. Then for the morning you can decide if you take I95 to the Canadian border, or the smaller road from Bangor to Calais and cross there.
But June 30 won't be a regular night, it is a Friday in the summer, just before the 4th of July. You could in for some incredibly bad traffic on the I-95 heading north, as in bumper-to-bumper until you are north of Portland. So Bangor might take 5 hours or more instead of 3. I'd still rather leave on Friday night, but this is one situation where I would decide on where I want to stop and make a reservation in advance. You don't want to be going place to place at 11pm looking for somewhere to stay.
I would also recommend making a reservation for wherever you decide to stay in PEI, at least for the Saturday and Sunday night -- July 1 is Canada Day, so many people will be traveling for the long weekend.
Including Cape Breton on this trip would mean spending a great deal of time in the car...which to some people is fine, it all depends on what you like. For example, it is over 800 miles from Sydney, NS to Manchester, which is more than a day's driving for me.
I think it would be more relaxing to spend a few days in PEI and then work your way down the south shore of Nova Scotia -- Peggy's Cove, Chester, Lunenburg, and then maybe take the ferry back from Yarmouth to Bar Harbor.

Inn at Bay Fortune had a lovely restaurant and great views.
You might also take a look at the Inn at St Peters. They had beautiful grounds and a nice location on the bay. Also had a great restaurant.
I didn't stay at either place, but ate there and thought I would consider staying on a future visit. I think St Peters is a slightly more central location. Also close to the great beach at Greenwich.
