Approx Cost of Taxi from BWI to downtown Washington
Hi All!
We're arriving around 4:00pm on Friday afternoon and need to get from BWI to the Hay Adams Hotel in Washington. I just priced the super shuttle and it's $40 for two each way. I was wondering how that compares with the cost of a taxi? Time is the critical factor because we need to check-in at the hotel and then get to RFK Stadium for a 7:00pm game.
Any thoughts?

You should take the train from BWI to Union Station then catch a cab. It takes sooo little time to get to DC. About the only way I think you could do it quicker is to take a taxi from BWI to the train station. But honestly the shuttle there only makes one or two stops. The shuttle's free, the train is $5 each way or thereabouts. Regardless, that's going to be your quickest time.

I would normally agree that the train would be a good option, but with that short of a time frame, I think a cab is your only option. Be forewarned -- BWI is a MESS, and you'll be trying to get into D.C. at the height of rush hour (if you're coming on a weekday).
BWI is under perpetual construction; I've only had one experience where I've gotten my checked bag in under 20 mins. (had to wait an HOUR last Christmas); they must be extremely short of ground staff, as I've often been on flights where we have to sit there waiting for someone to come & move the jetway, bring the fuel truck, etc. I live in the area, so unfortunately, it's the closest airport to me, but if you can, I'd consider changing your tickets to Reagan National -- a FAR better airport and much closer to where you'll be!
As far as your original question, if BWI's website said it's $63 for a cab, then that's probably what it is, considering all of the cab service @ BWI is run by one company -- with the "blessing" of the airport. And while SuperShuttle may be cheaper, you may be stuck with other travellers who are staying elsewhere, and they may get dropped off first, thus eating up even more time.

Have taken cabs from BWI to DC and they cost in the neighborhood of $60 as the website states. I think your best bet is to take the shuttle from the airport to the BWI train station and take the train from BWI to Union Station in DC as Tandoori Girl suggested. U could even take the DC metro (http://www.wmata.com/) from Union Station to the Hay Adams. It's a short walk from the metro stop to the hotel or u could taxi it from Union Station to the Hay Adams. Traffic on a Friday afternoon on the BW Parkway, which takes u from BWI to DC, during rush hour could be really bad and if there is an accident on the Parkway you could get stuck on the Parkway for hours on your way to DC.
To LT -- sadly the Redskins no longer play at RFK -- they're in Landover, MD at Fed Ex field.

I say take the cab. Yes, you could get caught in traffic. But your chances of being able to get to DC much quicker than schlepping onto the train is a much better bet.
Once you wait for the shuttle, take the shuttle to the train station, wait for the train, take the train into the city, get off the train and get a cab to your hotel, you've eaten up loads and loads of time. If time were my biggest concern, I would take a cab.
