Is it necessary to buy train tickets in advance?
We are going to be in Ireland in June. After a countryside road trip we are planning to take the train from Cork to Dublin to catch a flight to Spain. Do I need to buy tickets before we leave the states or is it easily done once we arrive in Ireland?
Thank you for your expert advice,
Kim

Easily done once there - check www.seat61.com for good details - Cork to Dublin is one of the few main lines in Ireland - lots of trains and - just not a problem - IME.

A reason for buying early is to get a possible discount - maybe a big discount - not as familiar with Irish Rail's advance deals but in many countries book far in advance can yield dramatic savings - though those tickets are generally non-changeble or are so with a steep fee or refundable. But play around with the site above - should answer all your questions.
Cheers!

Hi Kim,
You should be fine either way, but as PalenQ said, you might want to check the Irish Rail website for better deals and for the timetables info, especially if you're running on a tight schedule.

If aiming for Dublin Airport there is the express bus up from Cork. http://www.aircoach.ie/timetables/ro...irport-express Other than that for the train stick to the Irish rail site.
