Driving from Copenhagen to Amsterdam

In the summer we will be driving from Copenhagen to Amsterdam then back to Ystad, Sweden. I was wondering the best places to see/stay between those places-we will take 2 days in each direction, so somewhere in Germany for the stops. Thanks.

Hey eh,

It's an 8- 9hr drive.

Are looking for a place to stay as an overnight pit stop or are you looking for some sightseeing?

Kind of a combination. Looking to drive 4-5 hours from copenhagen then hang wherever in Germany for a few hours and spend the night, then head to amsterdam the next day and spend the night there then head back the next day and spend a few hours and the night somewhere else in Germany. Thanks a lot for your reply, Ira.

Luebeck is really nice, but it may be too soon a stop for you. Hamburg is a great city, but with a car travelling through it may be a pain. The area southeast of Hamburg is great for a meal or more - - little places like Buxtehude or Stade, not far from the Autobahn, have some picture-perfect elements - - this area (the Altes Land) has some definite charm and driving the Landstrassen (local highways) can be pretty and pleasant - - the town of Jork has some really nice restaurants; Stade is really popular and deservedly so. Bremen's center is worth a stroll. Osnabrueck may be good for a stroll and a meal, but little more.
