Layover in Boston

We're returning to Chicago from Madrid via Boston (using AA award mileage, so far we were not able to get on the direct Iberia flight MAD-ORD). Our layover in Boston is almost 3 hours before taking an AA flight to ORD. I'd like to know what are the logistics there in BOS, do we pick up our luggage and go thru customs and immigration, and then what?

One of the reasons I'm asking is because we may want to briefly meet someone at the airport during our layover.

Thanks!

You go through immigration, pick up your bags, and go through customs at BOS. After you exit customs, you'll be able to drop off your bags at a counter right there and they'll be sent on for your BOS-ORD flight. Then you'll go through security and go to your gate for your BOS-ORD flight.

Yes. There will be a point at which you are outside security and someone could meet you.

Thanks, Jeff. Wow, lots of runaround... I'm suspecting that a 3-hour layover between landing and take-off would be tight and might not allow us any time to meet anybody....

> lots of runaround

Exactly the same process as at any U.S. airport when arriving from outside N. America.

Not complaining, just assessing the situation... That's why it's always better to take a direct flight home, so once we clear immigration and customs — we're home free....

You will also have to change terminals - E for your arrival, B for your onward flight. Use a shuttle bus or walk.
